To my friends, clients, partners, and fellow meditators (especially across India) who are celebrating, I wish you and your loved ones a Diwali filled with joy, light, and prosperity. May this festival bring warmth, harmony, and togetherness to your home.
This year, Diwali holds a special meaning for me as I celebrate it with fellow meditators in a peaceful retreat setting. Away from the noise of the world, surrounded by stillness and inner light, it feels especially fitting to honor the spirit of Diwali the light that shines within each of us.
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is one of the most significant Hindu festivals celebrated by millions across the world. It carries deep cultural, religious, and historical meaning, intertwined with timeless stories and enduring traditions.
For Hindus, Diwali represents the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, a universal message that transcends cultures and faiths. The festival is observed to honor different deities and legends across regions, reflecting India’s rich spiritual diversity.
One of the most beloved legends is the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after his victory over the demon king Ravana. According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama, together with Sita and Lakshmana, returned after 14 years of exile. The people of Ayodhya celebrated their return by lighting oil lamps, symbolizing hope, renewal, and the victory of light.
Diwali is also dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. It is believed that on this auspicious night, she visits homes that are bright and welcoming, bringing blessings of abundance and good fortune.
