Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with investors from many different backgrounds. Some of them are meditators, others come from strong religious traditions and I must say, they are often the easiest clients to deal with.
They are calm, patient, and rarely call me in a panic when markets wobble. In fact, compared to some of my more excitable investors, the difference is almost like night and day. While others might call me five times a day to ask if the market is “really crashing,” my meditator clients are more likely to ask, “Shall we just breathe through this?”
I believe this calmness comes from their inner practices. Meditation teaches the art of observing without overreacting while faith often brings perspective that wealth is important, but not everything. Put those two together, and you get an investor who is less likely to hit the panic button at the first sign of red on the screen.
Of course, they are human too and they do worry. However, instead of demanding instant action, they tend to pause, reflect, and then engage in constructive conversation. That makes my job smoother and our relationship stronger. It also gives me fewer grey hairs compared to dealing with clients who treat every market dip like the end of the world.
In the end, investing is as much about temperament as it is about analysis. Those who cultivate inner calm through meditation or faith often bring a sense of clarity and balance that makes the journey far more enjoyable.
