I have never had an Instagram account. Even the Facebook profile I recently deleted was created a couple of years ago for a specific club registration. TikTok was never part of my world. While I maintain a minimum presence on LinkedIn, it is out of job-related compliance. I have not even bothered to verify my LinkedIn account despite the frequent prompts to do so.
I have never chased likes, followers, or online validation. I do not post about my trophies, articles, meals, or holidays. In fact, much of what matters to me happens quietly, without the need for digital applause. Life moves on with depth and meaning.
This makes me wonder – is social media truly essential to survive or succeed in today’s world? Can one still live a fulfilling, connected, and even professionally relevant life without being constantly visible online? Or has our society reached a point where opting out of social platforms is seen as stepping away from relevance itself?
