Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to all my investors and partners celebrating. While the markets are buzzing about the Fed rate cut, I’m taking a well-deserved pause to enjoy mooncakes with my family.
After all, there is nothing like a full moon to remind us that markets, like the moon, have their phases or cycles. So, while the world is keeping an eye on interest rates, let us also take a moment to enjoy the sweetness of life together.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, has a history that stretches back over 3,000 years in China. It originated as an ancient harvest celebration tied to the autumn equinox when farmers would express gratitude to the moon for bountiful crops. The festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, a time when the moon is said to be at its fullest and brightest.
One of the most famous legends associated with the festival is the story of Chang’e, the moon goddess. According to the tale, she drank an elixir of immortality and ascended to the moon, where she remains. Her story has become deeply connected to the festival, symbolizing reunion and longing.
Today, the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated across many parts of Asia, with mooncakes as the signature treat and a focus on reunions and the beauty of the moon.
I will be back to worry about the markets tomorrow. Tonight, it is just me, my family, the moon, and a pile of mooncakes. I hope the Jerome Powell does not steal my dessert.
