I caught the US presidential debate, and one line really summed it up: “They are eating the dogs. They are eating the cats. They are eating the pets of the people that live there.” That was how the night went for the former president in my book and I do not own any pets. The debate was not exactly Trump’s finest hour. Yeah, Harris did manage to poke at Trump a bit and got some reactions.
It did not come as a shock when Taylor Swift, one of the biggest stars in the music industry, threw her support behind Kamala Harris for president right after the debate. Swift made the endorsement via Instagram, racking up a million likes in just 13 minutes. Whether this celebrity backing will sway young voters in Harris’s favor? Honestly, I have no clue.
I doubt the latest debate will shake up the polls much. Trump did not lose any voters at the debate. If you were going to vote for Trump before the debate, you were still going to vote for him afterwards. If you are still on the fence about Trump this time, maybe you backed him before but now you are feeling a bit disillusioned, or maybe you are just worn out by his never-ending stand-up routine.
Elections can sometimes feel like a reality TV show. I have a feeling that whoever ends up running America in the coming years is in for a rough ride. It is not China’s fault. Problems in America are a little more complicated than that. Some people have just been spinning their wheels for so long, they are stuck in their own mud.
If that is not enough, we might just be on the brink of a multi-year bear market so grizzly and it could hibernate for decades but that is another conversation.
Politicians love to talk a big game but let us be honest, they are a bit like a soap opera. For those struggling on the bottom rung, it is like getting a new snack for the same daily grind, same problems, just wrapped in different slogans.
Bring the popcorn and good luck America!
