I recently caught up with some old friends over coffee. Exiting our coffee meeting, from my perspective of higher consciousness, I could not help but be struck by the pervasive influence of money on anything even over major family life decisions, even for someone who is significantly wealthier relative to me and could be so captive to her unconscious yearning for more.
One of them expressed dissatisfaction with her son’s job income, even though it seemed like a substantial salary for a lot of struggling people out there. Another attributed his lack of millions from his business to bad karma. They view charitable contributions as business ventures or investments that are expected to yield a return.
I explained that meditation, with its deep spiritual and historical roots, is not primarily intended as a networking or business tool. A meditation group’s main focus is personal growth and spiritual enrichment, not directly pursuing business opportunities.
Is money really everything? The relentless pursuit of wealth could result in some people compromising their physical and mental well-being to such an extent that even upon achieving the desired wealth, they may find themselves unable to fully enjoy the gains. Some people may accumulate wealth but still struggle with personal well-being, relationships, or a sense of purpose.
Obsessing about one’s relative wealth, accompanied by billionaire envy, is not the road to happiness. The unvarnished truth is, given the choice, I would prefer to be myself rather than Elon Musk. The freedom to move around without constant recognition or the need for bodyguards holds a unique value for me.
I do not generalize or judge people solely based on their financial status. I have met some very wealthy people who lack a spiritual dimension in their lives which encompass a sense of purpose, connection, and meaning beyond material accumulation.
Attaining happiness is straightforward even without the material wealth. It resides within, transcending the surface reality. In essence, each of us can serve as a source of happiness, generating it from within, rather than seeking it externally. It is a priceless, freely available resource.
One does not need a complicated process to achieve happiness. Transcendental Meditation helps me to promote a holistic approach to life and to seek fulfilment not only through material success but also through spiritual growth and inner peace. As I grow older, it gives me even more patience, energy and calm to face whatever is coming my way.
Meditators, especially those who teach meditation, all believe in the principle that you must give without expecting any form of reward before you can receive. They emphasize that generosity and selflessness are essential for creating a positive flow of energy in one’s life.
